Summer Fillies’ Stakes Trends

By on July 19, 2020

The big race of today (in fact the only Group race) is the Summer Fillies’ Stakes at York at 3.05.

As always with these I like to use trends to build up the profile of the winner.

To make things easier for you I’ve decided to include a table representation of the trends. It allows you to see which horses adhere to which trends.

First off here are the top 10 trends:

  1. 12 of the last 12 winners had at least 1 previous win over 6 furlongs.
  2. 11/12 winners had at least 6 previous flat turf runs.
  3. 11/12 winners had at least 2 previous runs that season.
  4. 10/12 winners had a rating of 95 or higher.
  5. 10/12 winners had at least 3 previous runs over 6 furlongs.
  6. 10/12 winners had their last run within the last 48 days.
  7. 10/12 winners had at least 2 previous flat turf wins.
  8. 8/12 winners were aged 3 or 4.
  9. 7/12 winners had at least 1 previous win that season.
  10. 6/12 winners had at least 1 previous run at York.

Below is the trends table:

A box coloured green means that horse passes that trend. Red means it fails.

The trend number correlates to the trends as they are listed above.

The accuracy percentages represent the strength of the trend. So 100% means every past winner passed that trend (e.g. trend number 1) and 50% means half of the winners passed that trend (e.g. trend number 10). So the trends on the left are the strongest.

As you can see Miss Celestial (currently 8/1) is the main trends fit.

(Although there are a couple of other horses that hit 9 out of 10 trends; Queen Jo Jo and Royal Intervention.)

You don’t have to use all the trends of course. You can just focus on the main ones to create a shortlist and then use regular form reading to narrow down a selection.

Good luck if you’re having a bet.
