It’s finally happened…

By on October 13, 2017

Bruce Millington, the Racing Post editor, has finally said something negative against the bookmakers’ restrictions in his Thursday column.

It’s not a lot – just the middle section in his Thursday column – but it’s a start.

Of course he should have been speaking up for punters for years.

But you don’t need to be a genius to work out why he hasn’t.

The bookies make the Post a fortune in advertising and affiliate income, so he doesn’t want to upset his pay masters.

I do wonder why he is speaking up now?

He doesn’t really go for the jugular in the piece stating…

“…if the smart punter who chisels out a small profit over a long period cannot get his bets on something is badly wrong.”

And ending with…

“But the aspiration to be moderately successful should not be snatched away once a customer shows they are capable of making even a marginal profit from their hobby.”

Like I said, it’s not much but it’s a start, and hopefully it will bring about a wider discussion on the subject.

I’m not holding my breath though.
