Here’s who I’m backing in today’s big race (currently 13/2)

By on March 7, 2020

Unfortunately Sandown has been abandoned so there’s no Imperial Cup to look forward to today.

That means the biggest race of the day is the Lincoln Trial Handicap at Wolverhampton at 1.35 (televised on ITV4).

Let’s look at a few of the trends to see if we can find the profile of the likely winner.

The first place to start is age. 16 of the last 17 winners have been 6 or younger. (No winners in the past decade either). This immediately cuts out 4 runners.

15 of the past 17 winners had won over a mile or further before. And 14 of 17 winners had won at least 3 times previously.

Via Serendipity is trying to pull off the best weight carrying effort in more than 20 years so even though she’s been heavily tipped I’m crossing him from the list as well.

Horses rated in the 80s by the official handicapper have a poor record so that’s three more I’m ruling out.

There’s a couple of horses that fit all the trends but my preference is Red Bond.

At the time of writing he’s best priced at 13/2.

Good luck to those of you having a bet.

Remember, celebrity tipster Stewart Black is still offering new members his Cheltenham discount.

Usually he charges £40 to receive his bets for Cheltenham (he’s made 74.3 points profit over the past 4 festivals).

But for a short time only you can get his tips for a whole month for just £39.
