Does Ruby deserve this criticism?

3 winners out of 6 for Ruby Walsh at the weekend.

All favourites but I’m sure he’ll be pleased with his weekend’s work.

But have you noticed his propensity for falling at the last?

Two of his charges went down at the final fence at Leopardstown yesterday.

And he almost went down at the last on his first winner yesterday as well.

He must surely be top of the list for last flight falls percentage over number of rides.

It really is heart in the mouth stuff every time he approaches the last in the lead.

Can’t be a coincidence can it?

I think it has to do with his style.

He’s not the most decisive of jockeys and seems to let the horse decide how to jump.

He even said as much on ITV on Saturday when discussing Thistlecrack.

He more or less said that jumping is nothing to do with the jockey, it’s all down to the horse.

And when the horse is navigating the final fence and is tired it seems to be his undoing.

It seems a little foolish to criticise Ruby after the career he’s had but it does appear to be happening with increasing frequency.

Just a quick reminder that the £1 trial to our second longest running service, The Percentage Form Edge, is closing down this week.

It’s pulled in over 400 points profit since it was launched and is very popular.

You can read more about it and get the £1 trial here…
