A chink in Un De Sceaux’s armour?

By on January 28, 2017

It’s a bumper day of racing at Cheltenham today with nine races scheduled.

Six of them graded events!

Un De Sceaux will take part in the rearranged Clarence House Chase and will be a heavy odds on favourite.

But will he have it his own way?

Un De Sceaux loves to lead from the front and control the race.

And in doing so he’s won 16 out of his 21 races.

But did you know that 3 of those losses came when he didn’t have freedom to lead from the front?

At Auteuil on 12th June 2016 he battled with Blue Dragon for the lead.

This seemed to take a lot out of him and he was labouring when he made a mistake at the last finishing 6th.

At Sandown on 23rd April 2016 he led but was constantly hassled by Sire De Grugy.

Again this seemed to take it’s toll and after several mistakes he finished a distant second.

And finally at Cheltenham on 16th March 2016 he couldn’t take the early lead from Special Tiara and after a mistake at the 4th ended second again.

In today’s race it seems more than likely that Ar Mad and Special Tiara will set off at a blistering pace.

Will this cause Un De Sceaux to go too quick to soon and make the mistakes we know he is capable of?

Quite possibly.

For this reason I won’t be backing him.

The odds will be far too low for that.

But I will be watching the race with great interest.

And it’s sure to be a great day of racing.
